September 2026 update

Back to routine after 6 weeks off. Back to school and back to work. Finance update Breakdown for the month: ISA up £5k Pension up £3k GIA /easy access up £4k Crypto up £10k  House price  down £5.5k Total : up £21k Nice uptick in September, with only the house price slipping down slightly. 2026/27 tax year: Up to £181k for the tax year so far I've been playing a bit with AI over the past few weeks, and given the decade worth of data I've got access to I've come up with some decent graphics. I'll be consulting these once or twice a year to review my finances. My particular favourite is this one below, showing 'Contributions vs Gains'. Unfortunately I don't have the concrete contributions going back further than this (although I could make an educated guess). This shows me just how powerful compounding is. September 2026 update

Back to routine after 6 weeks off. Back to school and back to work.

Finance update

Breakdown for the month:

  • ISA up £5k
  • Pension up £3k
  • GIA/easy access up £4k
  • Crypto up £10k
  • House price down £5.5k
  • Total: up £21k

Nice uptick in September, with only the house price slipping down slightly.

2026/27 tax year:

Up to £181k for the tax year so far

I've been playing a bit with AI over the past few weeks, and given the decade worth of data I've got access to I've come up with some decent graphics. I'll be consulting these once or twice a year to review my finances.

My particular favourite is this one below, showing 'Contributions vs Gains'. Unfortunately I don't have the concrete contributions going back further than this (although I could make an educated guess). This shows me just how powerful compounding is. Three years ago my contributions and gains were roughly equal, the year after it was double (despite contributing a similar amount), and the current tax year is absolutely flying, with contributions standing at £40k and gains of almost £150k!

It also come up with a nice little heat map based on monthly gain/loss.
On the face of it, it looks like there is hardly every a loss during the middle Summer months, with most of the down monthly happening in February/March. I'm not really in a position to take advantage of any of these perceived trends (although past performance etc etc) given that I am locked in on making certain moves at certain times of the year, namely filling my ISA as soon after April as possible, and contributing to my SIPP in March.

A few other things worth mentioning this month, I finally got around to buying the 1 Mitchells and Butlers share, where you get a shareperk of a free voucher booklet. Although I had assumed that I would need to wait until next year's booklet, I was surprised when this one arrived in the post. For more info on Share perks see my post here

Non-Finance update

New cat

It's been a few months since our cat died, and the house just wasn't the same. We went to see a rescue cat at the start of the month and ended up winning our hearts over that much that we took her home that very night. She's settling in amazingly, very playful with the kids and very snuggly with me and the wife, best of both worlds!

Bit of a shorter on this month, the past few weeks have been v busy, and I've only got a few days at work this week before I take the week off for October half term, my last week of Unpaid Parental Leave this year.

That's it, that's the update,
See you next time!
